MOUNT Buller is set to welcome winter sports enthusiasts for the grand opening of the snow season over the King's Birthday weekend with a three-day weekend of alpine festivities and fun.
The much-anticipated event, which takes place from June 8 to June 10, 2024, marks the official start of a season filled with skiing, snowboarding, and a variety of other activities.
"As the resort prepares for the long weekend season opening festivities there is a mixture of excitement and adrenaline as each person puts the finishing touches on the preparations," said Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Noel Landry.
"Whether it’s making beds, preparing food, making snow, preparing chairlifts, stocking rental stores, training staff or answering customer enquiries everyone is doing their part to make sure the season gets off to a great start.
"This season is extra special as we celebrate 100 years since skiing began up here."
As the resort gears up for this annual celebration, preparations are in full swing to ensure the slopes are in prime condition.
The festivities kick off on Saturday with the traditional 'First Chair' ceremony at 8:30 AM, where eager skiers and snowboarders line up for the inaugural lift ride of the season at Bourke Street Express.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy a host of activities beyond the slopes.
The Village Square will be buzzing with live music, food stalls offering local and international cuisine, and a fireworks display set to light up the night sky on Saturday evening.
For those new to snow sports, beginner lessons are available, making it the perfect time to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time.
"Guests this winter will enjoy the reassurance of yet another snow factory adding to the snow cover," added Mr Landry.
"Changes in resort this year include the new Snow Factory over near Spurs on the Northside.
"It’s the fifth factory investment for Mt Buller as we continue to lead the way in embracing technology and ensuring reliable snow cover for guests.
"Whether you’re a fourth-generation skier whose great, great grandfather was one of those skiing pioneers back in 1924 with the Ski Club of Victoria or if this will be your first winter to try sliding on skis we look forward to celebrating together.
"As we look back on 100 years of skiing it’s an exciting opportunity to look ahead to the next 100 years and the future we want to build as a community."
