Myrtleford makes merry as the holidays approach

THE festive season is getting into full swing, with businesses around Myrtleford preparing for an increase of customer traffic as the countdown to Christmas continues.

"We're seeing Christmas trading at local businesses going well so far," said Myrtleford Chamber of Commerce president, Jim van Geet.

"Usually there is a bit of a lull, then it ramps up before December 25.

"Each business can decide to stay open for late-night shopping, but we've not asked them to do that directly.

"Depending on the type of store, some shops are doing really well, others don't have the traffic."

To add to the holiday cheer, Myrtleford will also be hosting a number of community events in the Piazza for all the family to attend.

"The Summer Series started a few weeks ago," Mr van Geet said.

"It's a free family friendly event that supports many local performers and we encourage everyone to bring along a picnic or buy takeout from one of our many cafes or restaurants in close proximity."

The first instalment of the Summer Series was held on Friday, December 6 from 6pm to 8pm and will continue every Friday evening in December, as well as every Saturday evening through January to February 8, all in the Myrtleford Piazza.

Performing at the event will be: Benny & Megs, The Freisians, Tracy Hamilton, JD & The Kat, Tahlia Brain, Joe Davis & Elissa Pernu, Adam Lindsay, The Stents, Terry Lockwood and Red Brick Radio.

"Grow Myrtleford+ also have their Carols by Candlelight scheduled for this Sunday, December 22 at 5:30pm in the Piazza," Mr van Geet said.

"Rudi Katterl will conduct the singers of the 'With One Voice Choir' and it should be a great night out for everyone.

"Myrtleford is going really well and it's going to do well over the summer."
