Winterwords Festival takes off next week

AN action–packed Winterwords Festival that has drawn well–known identities among them authors, poets, artists, a film maker and a well–known journalist kicks off next Wednesday.

Festival creative director Janet Tweedie said an incredible range of sessions are offered to the community for the festival in its second year.

Ms Tweedie also said festivalgoers can experience a variety of sessions stretching from karaoke, poetry, interesting conversations, a play reading, fantastic presentations on punctuation. film–making and writing to growing produce, nature and internet conspiracies.

Sessions also include an Artwords Exhibition as well as story telling at the storyslam or listening to some lyric based music at different pubs.

With the unique festival one of its only kind in Australia, Ms Tweedie said it was a fabulous opportunity to showcase local talent in all forms of creativity as well as having special guests attend from near and far.

"The festival gives an experience to Beechworth that you would only usually get in a big city or a major regional centre," she said.

"It's been fantastic that we can provide this event to the community following some difficult years from COVID impacts."

"I'd like audiences to take away a deep sense of pride in our 'home grown' talents and a sense of how lucky we are to attract our special guests to our little festival."

Ms Tweedie said interstate and city guests had commented on how much they looked forward to being in Beechworth again after previous trips to the town or for those who had not yet visited from its great reputation and were keen to visit.

Encouraging people to support the festival, the creative director said many free events and ones with gold coin donations were up for grabs.

"It's never too late on the day to make up your mind to attend any of the sessions and have some fun," she said.
