Easter weekend boom for Bright

BRIGHT is expected to, yet again, swell by thousands of people this weekend as tourists flock to the town to celebrate the Easter holidays.

The autumn season, and this weekend in particular, is one of the biggest for the entire Alpine Shire, up there with Christmas.

Bright Chamber of Commerce president Rupert Shaw was hopeful it would be back to a 'normal' weekend matching the number seen preā€“COVID, which was usually a very busy one.

"It's a sellout weekend and is generally as busy as Christmas," he said.

"I can see no reason it wouldn't be because previous weekends have been great in terms of the response to various events like the Buffalo Stampede which saw double attendance on last year.

"We're not expecting anything unusual except for a busy weekend and you can already see the campsites fill up; hopefully the weather clears a little.

"We hope visitors enjoy our new Bright to Harrietville rail trail which is really nice, and all the usual attractions like Mt Buffalo, the mountain bike and walking trails and the picturesque views of Bright now that it's starting to turn to autumn."

Authorities are urging campers to abide by all the regulations, particularly not leaving any camp fires unattended, while police are urging visitors and locals alike to take it easy on the roads.
