Dinner Plain skiing and snowboarding open

Dinner Plain will open the Cobungra Platter slope for skiing and snowboarding for season 2021 from 9am today.

A week of ideal snow conditions has seen the alpine village record 15cm of natural snow plus an additional 45cm of manmade snow in snowmaking areas. These conditions have allowed the alpine village to open its terrain for skiing and snowboarding, uplifting via the slope’s all-age Cobungra Platter Poma.

Skiing and Snowboarding will be offered every morning from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Cobungra Platter before the slope transitions to free tobogganing sessions every afternoon from 1:30pm.

This week’s opening of skiing and snowboarding will be the first time at Dinner Plain since 2019, after the 2020 snow season was heavily impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. Dinner Plain expects the opening of skiing and snowboarding to be popular with both regular visitors and those new to the snow.

Cobungra Platter offers ideal terrain for beginner skiing and snowboarding with 1hr private lessons available on the green-rated slope. In addition to afternoon tobogganing on Cobungra Platter, the village offers a second toboggan slope, an extensive network of cross country ski trails, sled dog tours and guided cross country ski and snowshoe tours.

One of the great appeals of Dinner Plain is the lack of gate entry fees and the ability to bring dogs without a permit.

Dinner Plain Marketing Officer, Nathan Fenton, says the opening is a big win for visitors.

"School holiday visitors are always looking for variety in their holiday, the opening of Dinner Plain’s skiing and snowboarding means another snowsports activity that visitors can engage in at an affordable price for families", said Nathan.

"Great weather conditions for snow making has allowed for around 50 hours of production across 5 nights. Factor in 15cm of natural snowfall and we have built a good snow base of 57cm on the Cobungra Platter Slope for skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing."

"The ski slope was not able to operate in 2020 so it’s great to see Cobungra Platter Poma turning once more. We are thrilled to have a model in place that allows for daily skiing and snowboarding to return, plus a bigger experience with more reliable snow for our visitors who come here for tobogganing and snowplay.

"Often it’s that first snow experience that leads to a life-long passion for the alps. Dinner Plain’s mix of tobogganing, cross country and downhill skiing offers the perfect opportunity for this progression with ideal holiday conveniences like freestanding holiday homes and parking outside your door."
