THE Great Alpine Road was re-opened to traffic in both directions between Harrietville and Dargo High Plains Road on Friday afternoon, following a week-long closure due to a sinkhole from a mining tunnel collapse.
A Department of Transport and Planning spokesperson said crews completed emergency repairs to get the Great Alpine Road re-opened.
Reduced speed limits still apply until crews are able to return and complete the final asphalting works in the coming weeks.
Following completion of this work, the speed limit will be restored.
Transport Victoria thanked the community for their patience.
