Clean Up Australia Day beautifies town

UP2US Landcare Alliance hosted a Clean Up Australia Day event in Mansfield at the Mullum Wetlands, cleaning up community spaces for all.

Many families and individuals from the local community took time out of their weekend, coming together to pick up rubbish along the rail trail, visitors centre, railway precinct and Mullum Wetlands.

These areas are used regularly by locals and visitors and can be prone to litter.

Six–and–a–half–year–old Harriet Mahoney, a regular Clean Up Australia Day participant, said, "I love Clean Up Australia Day, it is so much fun with my friends."

Up2Us Project Officer Jess Robinson noted the value of Clean Up Australia Day saying, "Up2Us's objectives are to connect community for environmental change, and Clean Up Australia Day is the ideal event to achieve this aim.

"The wetlands and surrounding areas can be prone to litter due to its proximity to the highway, and stormwater inflow into the wetlands," she said.

Local police officers Senior Constable Jarrod Mapperson attended, spending time with children and assisting to get the harder to reach items of rubbish around the bird hide.
