Rainy start to Summer Series doesn't deter locals

SATURDAY kicked off with the first instalment of the Mansfield Summer Series, a month–long program of free exercise classes delivered by the Mansfield District Hospital's Respond Project every Saturday in February.

"This is our third year of the Mansfield Summer Series, and with each year it keeps getting bigger and better," said Lucy Marks, the Respond Project Coordinator.

Despite a rainy start to the day and the Summer Series relocating to the Mansfield Sporting Complex, participants were out in force.

First up at 8.30am was Turn up the Heat with Lana from More than PT, with the 9.30am session of pilates from Barefoot Studio also drawing a crowd of both devotees and first–timers, with numerous people taking part in both the classes.

"We are also enjoying not having the stress that came with looming COVID lockdowns in previous years," said Lucy.

"We feel like the community is ready to shake up their exercise routine, or even start one anew – and there's no better place to do this than the series.

"Each year we have our trainers and fitness instructors tell us that people who have tried a class on the day have then followed it up and enrolled in further classes at their gym or studio."

It's what the event is all about, and the series has become a much loved and anticipated month in the shire's calendar for our fitness–inspired community.

"This year's line–up is also really exciting," said Lucy.

"In terms of class type there is heaps of variety, and each session is suitable for all abilities.

"We even have a bonus Zumba class on the schedule, which will be heaps of fun."

The majority of classes are delivered at the Mansfield Botanic Park, with the occasional session in–studio.

"All you need to do is turn up.

"And just bring a water bottle and an exercise mat or towel, and arrive ten minutes early to register," said Lucy.

"It's the perfect way to start your weekend."
