Second King Of The Mountain

ON Sunday, July 31, Mt Buller Race Club (MBRC) hosted the second of its King Of The Mountain series of races with a Giant Slalom on the famous Little Buller Spur Race trail.

Approximately 200 racers were expected at the event and unfortunately the younger ages under 10–12 and snowboarders were unable to race as their event was hampered by strong winds by mid–morning.

Earlier in the morning the Fis and under 16 athletes raced on a course set by MBRC coach Jessica Haslau and the under 14 athletes on a course set by MBRC coach Ben Porter.

Both courses were challenging and allowed the racers to show off their skills and speed with fastest female Summer Wray completing the course in 49.78 sec and fastest male Max Kelly over the line in 46.27 sec.

Both were on the podium in first place for women and men respectively.

Local athlete Harry McCormack came an impressive 5th in the under 16 event.

This year's race had a special international flavour with athletes from the Winter Park Competition Centre racing.

They performed very well having only arrived just days before and will be at Mt Buller for three weeks training during their summer break.

On the same day at Thredbo, the MBRC Snowboard Cross (SBX) team led by head coach Adam Vetricek, competed in the first of the Snow Australia Tri Series Jnr Fis SBX races.

The MBRC athletes performed very well with Lara Walsh taking out first place with Emily Lawson in fourth.

Will Martin was a creditable 7th in the men's event.

The second event in the Tri series FIS Jnr SBX event was held at Mt Buller on Sunday, August 14 and hosted by the MBRC and Mt Buller Resort.

The third and final King Of The Mountain event for Ski cross and Boarder cross and both events will take place on the Skyline Cross Course venue.
