FINAL preparations are underway for the eighth almost annual Whorouly Village Fair, being held this Sunday, October 20.
Locals were out in force last Sunday mowing, cleaning and pruning at the Whorouly Recreation Reserve to ensure it looks its best for the much-anticipated village fair.
The fair was first held in 2014 and it was a resounding success, attracting not only most of the town’s residents but visitors from far and wide.
Over the next five years the event grew in popularity and attractions, with the sixth village fair in 2019 boasting aerial acrobatics by a WW2 Kittyhawk and a visit by AFL all-star Eddie Betts.
Then Covid hit and the annual community event was put on hold until its return last year.
“The very special thing about the Whorouly Village Fair is the participation of locals, either running stalls or activities, or simply attending and catching up with friends,” event organiser Jennifer Garrett said.
“That is why the whole town is so excited to participate in this wonderful community event.”
Ms Garrett said the eighth almost annual village fair will feature approximately 50 market stalls, selling everything from specialty mushrooms to handmade clothing.
“As well as attracting stallholders from far and wide, the village fair provides an opportunity for local groups to fundraise and promote themselves, and this year’s participants include Whorouly Primary School, Whorouly Inner Wheel and Whorouly Memorial Park Committee,” she said.
“The very popular outdoor foodcourt will be offering a range of cuisine, including Italian, French, Spanish and Aussie food.
"Not to mention the Whorouly CWA’s delicious Devonshire teas.”
Entertainment at this year’s village fair includes music by the Myrtleford Ukulele Group starting at 11am, a belly dancing display by River Spirits from noon, mass line dancing on the oval at 12.30pm and old-fashioned family games with prizes throughout the day.
You can enjoy the fun of the fair from 9am to 2pm this Sunday at the Whorouly Recreation Reserve.
