THERE was a joyful party at Myrtleford's Piazza last Wednesday afternoon, while performers 'The Dreaming Space' astounded and amazed dozens of families who enjoyed a great day out.
To celebrate Children's Week, the Alpine Shire Council arranged three performances across the shire last week, starting at the Mount Beauty Hydro Park on Tuesday, Myrtleford's Piazza on Wednesday and finishing at Bright's Howitt Park on Thursday.
The events were planned with children from 0-10 years old in mind, but they had plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Before the show began, families were free to play with hula-hoops, pogo-sticks, hackey sacks and juggling balls and practised their balancing skills by spinning plates on sticks.
"We heard about this event from our playgroup this morning," local mother, Faith Majadas said.
"My sons George and Benny were glad to try the ice creams and slushies available.
"Mostly we're looking forward to playing and watching the show."
The Dreaming Space features a fairy named Sparkle and a clown named Jimmy who take audiences on a whimsical and fun-filled journey, performing illusions, balancing acts and dance numbers to show how the impossible and extraordinary can become possible.
The ice cream van was very popular, after the sun came out with a vengeance in the afternoon, following the morning's rain.
A wood-fired pizza stall was also on site to cater to the hungry crowds.
"We've had a great turn-out," council community events wellbeing officer, Jodi Timbs said.
"We ordered clear weather and it delivered; we were looking at the rainy weather this morning, waited for it to clear up and it did.
"It was perfect for an outdoor event.
"After four months of planning, today is really just about bringing the community together and the events are designed for the whole family to enjoy.
"The Dreaming Space performers literally get their whole family involved in the show; singing, dancing and performing magic tricks.
"At our other events, we've had a couple of seniors come past and we say: 'You should join us!' because it's for everybody.
"It lines up perfectly with Seniors Month in October and a bit of cross-generational fun is good for everybody."
The music from the festivities could be heard from several streets away and children were reluctant for the fun afternoon to end.
