WELL known Mt Buller identity Alfred Jones passed away peacefully on July 1, aged 90.8 years at the Wangaratta District Base Hospital.

Son Anthony said in the announcement of his passing that his dad, Alf, was a loving caring family man, lived a full life and was very much involved in his children's activities.

Alf was first involved at Mt Buller with the building process of Downhill Alpine with the Scotch College boys in his late 20s early 30s with his trade and skills as a painter and decorator.

In the early 60s Alf became a member of the Ski Club of Victoria where he contributed to the building process of The Whitt where most of it is today along with the building process of Kandahar in the early 80s.

Over the years in the off season and into the golden era of the SCV under Eric and Di Goetz, Alf was also involved with the building process at Koflers extension, Pension Grimus, Bee Hive, Arlberg and many other smaller club lodges on Mt Buller.

Alf went on to complete further works over at SCV's Falls Creeks only Austrian/Swiss Lodge – Karelia and SCV Mt Hotham – Stuart McKay Lodge alongside SCV's engineer Phil Crimms.

In 1990 Alfs daughter Kirsten passed away at aged 17 years from cancer. Kirsten's strength through her battle showed many of us the significance of life.

Through Alf's connections in the ski community it has allowed his son Anthony an opportunity that could only come from him to continue work at the SCV at Mt Buller–The Whitt in seasons 95, 97, 99, 2000 and 2001; SCV Falls Creek–Nelse Lodge in seasons 96, 98 and for Vail Associates in Colorado in seasons 99, 2000 and 2001; and later running his mobile food business 'Alfies Fast Food' at Falls Creek for seasons 2013–14 and 2015.

"With most recently now working for Parks Victoria in the snow season at Baw Baw National Park with his business from 2016, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 2022...Alf has certainly left a legacy and l am forever thankful and grateful to him," Anthony said.

"Dad absolutely loved skiing up at Mt Buller with his children and friends and was very much a social person within the Ski Club of Victoria.

"I think if we all can take away something from Dad it would have to be his giving nature; always willing to help out and be there for his family and friends when in need."
