COLOUR THE SNOW is the latest in children’s activity books and has been produced by Mt Buller ski instructor and mother of four, Celia Shelmerdine (Burrell).

The book titled ‘Colour the Snow’ is available on the mountain at SnowFox and Buller Grocer and at other resorts in Australia.

“The reason behind producing these books, is I am passionate about the great outdoors and education,” Celia said.

“I wanted to do the book as something that children could interact with whilst at the snow or once they have left, so I made it a colouring book, but also it’s a high-quality colouring book so that it hopefully also is a souvenir of their time in the snow.

“In my latest print run this year I added a certificate for children to cut out of the Alpine responsibility code.

“This is a fun way for them to engage and physically tick off understanding how to be safe on the mountain and Skiing.

“And a certificate makes them feel they have achieved something!

Celia has produced a few more children’s books, I Adult Photograph book. “I love to create things and enjoy illustrating, photography and writing,’ she said.

In her role as ski instructor she loves teaching children.

“It has been an interesting journey for me,” Celia said.

Mt Buller is the only mountain she currently teaches on, but she visits other mountains for her training and is currently planning to go to Falls Creek at the end of the season to sit her level four exam.

“My four kids do it all (ski and snowboard) and love it!,” she said. “Alpine, skier X, moguls, snowboard, slope style, cross country skating, cross country classic, skinning and they have all competed in the Victorian Interschools and nationals for now 10 years.”
