Storms bring the snow show

MT BULLER is abuzz with excitement after a series of Antarctic storms transformed the mountain into a snowy paradise.

Between July 21-22, the mountain received a whopping 51cm of fresh snow, allowing for the opening of additional runs for eager skiers and snowboarders.

As the month drew to a close, another storm brought an additional 21cm of snow, revealing more terrain under clear and sunny skies.

The storms delivered a substantial amount of snow, much to the delight of everyone on the mountain.

The polar air enabled snowmakers to enhance the snowpack further, turning snowgums into icy sculptures and blanketing the entire mountain in white.

Mountain Operations crews worked tirelessly to open more lifts and trails, ensuring greater accessibility for visitors.

Despite gusty winds and deep snow initially delaying the opening of some upper mountain lifts, the Summit and Koflers lifts eventually opened after hours of digging and de-icing, much to the delight of storm-chasing skiers and snowboarders.

“This is exactly what we needed,” explained resort spokesperson Rhylla Morgan.

“This solid dump is going to transform the experience in resort.

"The depths are creeping around the 90cm mark, and the flakes are falling beautifully.

"Skiers and snowboarders have been patiently waiting for significant snowfall for deeper cover, and it feels like it’s finally arrived.

"The hooting and hollering around the slopes is great to hear, and local operators are thrilled to have phones ringing and emails coming in as people jump on the opportunity for a winter escape.”

Currently open runs include Bourke Street, ABOM, Gliders, Skyline, Summit, Koflers, Family Run to Howqua chair lift, Burnt Hut with Bonza chair, Tirol T-bar from mid-way, and Southside.

The Bull Run chair is also rolling, with adventurous souls already exploring Wood Run and Standard.

Even the cross-country trails are groomed and ready for use, with more terrain opening up daily.

For the latest updates on open runs, visitors are encouraged to download the Mt Buller app and check Jane’s Weather for altitude-specific forecasts.
