Christmas lunch in need of business support

THE community Christmas lunch at Charlies Burgers this Christmas Day is looking for extra business support to get into the Christmas spirit.

The event, organised by Charlies Burger's owner Jonathan Sanders, will be for those who may not be able to be with their families on Christmas Day, or those who feel they are at a loose end.

The Christmas lunch will start at 11:30am Christmas Day and run until 2:30pm, and will include decorations, live music and plenty of food to get people in the spirit.

Mr Sanders said he has received volunteer support and community interest since his initial call out, but is still after more local business support and donations for the lunch.

"It's a little bit disappointing," he said.

"At the end of the day we'll have enough resources that come in individually and from our business to make sure the people that are coming have a very nice free Christmas lunch.

"There will some people who will be by themselves, as families and some will be classified as homeless.

"But it would be nice if we could get the support of other businesses to help us get into the Christmas spirit."

Mr Sanders said businesses can provide help even if they are unable to attend the lunch in person by donating food or providing funds.

"Any leftover funds will go towards the Christmas appeal with UMFC so everything we receive will go back into the community," he said.

"I know a lot of people have commitments and other things happening, but there are other ways they can help such as donating food."
