MOUNT Buffalo National Park reopened last Thursday for day visitors following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions across regional Victoria.
Ranger team leader of Ovens area, Michelle Doherty, said spring weather has arrived “in all its glory” with recent rainfall seeing splashing waterfalls and even some snow on isolated pockets of the plateau.
“At present camping is not a permitted activity due to COVID restrictions and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available and we encourage you to monitor relevant websites yourselves such as DHHS and Parks Victoria,” she said.
Access roads to Lake Catani day visitor areas, the Reservoir and the Horn are all open.
However, as part of the area’s ongoing fire recovery program, an aerial deer shooting operation commenced on Monday for five days.
During this time all roads and tracks to the west of Mount Buffalo Road will be closed with signage and a temporary gate will be erected at the Cathedral Saddle.
Chains will be required to be carried at Mount Buffalo from Tuesday, September 22 until further notice.
