Storms, snow hit Alpine

LAST week’s wet weather was short lived despite a heavy dumping across some towns on Friday afternoon and Saturday.

The TAFCO weather station in Myrtleford caught 27 millimeters of rain across the two days while Porepunkah was drenched in 37 millimetres.

Rosewhite residents got almost 28 millimetres while Whorouly was the driest with 14.8 millimetres.

Mount Hotham received the highest falls in the state with 63 millimetres falling in the gauges.

The snow cam even captured a light dusting of late-October snow as temperatures dropped to -5 degrees on Saturday night.

Flood warnings for the Ovens and King catchments thankfully didn’t materialise with Myrtleford SES confirming on Monday afternoon they received no call-outs for help.

Rainfall totals in Harrietville (47.8mm), Bright (50.4mm) and Mount Buffalo (54.8mm) took this month’s rainfall to above average for October.

The dumping took Myrtleford’s October total to 110.6 millimetres, Porepunkah to 184.8 millimetres and 115 millimetres at Rosewhite.

Porepunkah has received the highest rainfall to date this year catching 1244 millimetres as of Monday 5pm.

Maximum temperatures have fallen below normal for October with temperatures predicted to remain in the low 20s for the remainder of this week.

The Bureau of Meteorology indicated an extremely high chance of rain from today onwards with showers expected to clear from Sunday.
