First snow on the mountain

MOUNT Buller residents were treated to a snowy surprise on Friday morning as a cold front brought the first cover of white powder this year to the ski resort town.

Temperatures plummeted into the negatives, with a brisk wind and rolling clouds keeping locals and tourists alike inside.

Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Noel Landry said, "The snow is a timely reminder for locals to start thinking about the coming ski season.

"So many people live in Mansfield for the lifestyle and we're proud to celebrate the alpine side of the outdoors year–round for locals."

This year is set to be another bumper winter season for ski resorts in the Victorian Alps with plenty of snow forecasted over the winter months.

Things will be back to normal quickly as warmer weather is predicted to follow.

Mr Landry added, "It's nice to see national attention on our local mountain from unseasonal snow, but it's just a few days interruption from the usual mountain bikes, hiking and events programme at Buller over summer."
