AS we all know, ski seasons are great, but some just greater than others.
What makes a great season is very much up to the individual.
Simply learning to ski or snowboard will for some, be their justification, whilst for others it might be that great family vacation and catching up with friends.
For others, it could a ripper powder day, or celebrating a special occasion (FYI Sunset snowmo tours have a strong track record of ‘proposals’ on their rides).
It’s all about the experiences.
In any case, one of the great times to visit the alps is during early spring.
There are endless blue skies, there are always accommodation deals available and generally, the runs are a little less hectic.
For beginners or families with little children, this is the ideal time to introduce them to skiing and snowboarding.
The weather and conditions are more predictable and the chorus of ‘I’m cold’ is quashed by basking in the sun over a hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Here at Falls Creek, with over 30 restaurants and bars to choose from, après is also another seasoned springtime tradition.
And what better way than to work on that goggle tan.
With a selection of on-piste options - like Cloud 9 and it’s new outdoor deck, Blue Brumby at the bottom of Main Street, or Dick Knees’ over at Ruined Castle - there’s plenty of places to take in the sun and sights.
Two of the best venues, particularly in September, is at the bottom of the Summit Chair, at the Frying Pan Inn, or the balcony of the iconic Falls Creek Hotel.
With events like the Summit Masters (and retro weekend) and Oktoberfest, the Village Bowl really activates in spring.
And for those wondering about whether there’ll be any more fresh snow falls, a quick review of our SnowStats, compiled by the Fall Creek Ski Patrol team, suggests there are plenty of recent seasons where spring ‘dumps’ have been recorded.
For comparative purposes, 2017 had a huge late August/September rally (70+cms).
Then, in 2019 on September 9 the mountain also got a nice little 20cm top up.
And for those here in 2022, we had ski-in ski-out, right through to closing weekend thanks to the storm on September 16 (45cm pukage).
So, anything is possible.
Weather is pretty unpredictable, just ask the BoM.
There is still plenty more days where snow can fall.
In fact, there no seasons since 2015 where September snow hasn’t bolstered the great vibe and fun of spring skiing.
To help seal the deal, the great work of the Falls Creek Ski Lifts snowmaking and grooming teams have laid down a phenomenal base that will see us ski into September right across the mountain.
See you out there.
