Elliot Way between Cabramurra and Tumbarumba set to reopen potentially by September 23.

The Elliott Way has been closed to through traffic since mid August after a huge landslide blocked the road, plus the above slope being unstanble.

The slope scaling works have been completed and approximately 2,500 tonnes of material that resulted from the slip and the subsequent scaling have been removed from site.

A further inspection by a consulting engineering geologist to examine the remaining upslope conditions and boulders above the roadway occurred this week. This included a lidar and drone survey of the slip face and upslope terrain. The inspection will inform decision making with regard to the need for further immediate upslope stabilisation works as well as the longer term stabilisation design solutions.

Pavement repair is nearing completion. A new gravel surface was laid and compacted.

NPWS is now arranging to seal this surface as soon as possible. Following this the temporary concrete barriers and rock catch fencing will be installed.

The proposed road reopening date will be informed by the observed slope stability following the rainfall event that is forecast over the next few days. At this stage NPWS would like to have the road open (with a single lane past the slip site under controlled conditions) by 23 September 2022.

This proposed date is contingent on the slip site remaining stable following the weather event and the road seal being completed next week. The opening date will also be subject to the geotechnical advice following the review of the recent survey information.
